The Freightliner Cascadia is usually powered by a Detroit DD13, DD15 or DD16, and Detroit sets its service intervals by duty cycle, not by one fixed mileage. This page shows the oil, fuel filter and aftertreatment intervals by duty cycle, the A, B and C service tiers many fleets use, and where the published sources disagree. Schedule a call to build your Cascadia PM schedule.

How a Cascadia Maintenance Schedule Is Built
Detroit sets engine intervals by duty cycle, and fleets layer A, B and C services on top
Detroit does not publish one A-Service number for every Cascadia. Its intervals depend on annual mileage and fuel economy, and the fleet then groups the tasks into service visits. A common baseline for Freightliner trucks is an A-Service every 15,000 miles, a B-Service every 30,000 and a C-Service every 60,000. That baseline comes from a fleet-software guide, so treat it as a starting grid and not an OEM rule.
1
A-Service
About every 15,000 miles: safety and fluids
→
2
B-Service
About every 30,000 miles: adds filters and measured checks
→
3
C-Service
About every 60,000 miles: adds drivetrain fluids and DOT inspection
| Service | Generic Freightliner baseline |
|---|
| A-Service | Every 15,000 mi |
| B-Service | Every 30,000 mi |
| C-Service | Every 60,000 mi |
Check the build sheet. The source lists one generic Freightliner row and no Cascadia-specific figures, and says to verify against the truck's build sheet.
Which Duty Cycle Is Your Cascadia?
Detroit classifies a truck by annual miles and fuel economy, and one severe condition moves it down a tier
Efficient long-haul
Over 60,000 miles a year at more than 7 mpg.
Long-haul
Over 60,000 miles a year at 6.0 to 6.9 mpg.
Short-haul
30,000 to 60,000 miles a year at 5.1 to 5.9 mpg.
Severe duty
Up to 30,000 miles a year at under 5 mpg. One guide says a truck meeting any one severe condition belongs in this profile.
Check the fuel economy honestly
A truck that idles a lot or runs stop-and-go will post low mpg even on long routes, and that moves it down a tier.
Detroit DD15 Oil and Fuel Filter Intervals by Duty Cycle
Oil and fuel filter changes run together, and the range is 35,000 to 75,000 miles
On Detroit's DD15 support page the oil and fuel filter intervals are the same for each duty cycle. Intervals assume Detroit-approved CK-4 or FA-4 oil. The page also lists hour limits for the short-haul (1,000 hours) and severe (750 hours) profiles, so idle-heavy trucks may hit hours first.

A fleet-software guide gives different, shorter figures, so confirm which engine and year you have
A vendor guide lists DD13, DD15 and DD16 oil intervals below. Its short-haul and severe figures for the DD15 are 40,000 and 25,000 miles, shorter than the Detroit page's 45,000 and 35,000. The vendor attributes its table to a Detroit document that it does not link to, so use the shorter figure as a conservative setting until your manual confirms.
| Duty cycle | DD13 | DD15 | DD16 |
|---|
| Efficient long-haul | 75,000 mi | 75,000 mi | 60,000 mi |
| Long-haul | 60,000 mi | 60,000 mi | 50,000 mi |
| Short-haul | 40,000 mi | 40,000 mi | 35,000 mi |
| Severe duty | 25,000 mi | 25,000 mi | 20,000 mi |

Other DD15 Service Items Beyond the Oil Change
Valve lash, the DEF pump filter and the DPF run on much longer clocks
| Item | Interval | Source note |
|---|
| DD15 fuel filter | Same as the oil interval for each duty cycle | Detroit DD15 page |
| DD15 valve lash | 100,000 mi, then 500,000 mi, then every 500,000 mi | Detroit DD15 page |
| DEF pump filter | 3 years or 500,000 mi, whichever comes first | Detroit DD15 page |
| DPF ash service | Warning-driven; check engine light signals ash removal | Detroit DD15 page |
| Coolant | Not listed on that page; use the Detroit manuals | Detroit DD15 page |
DPF ash figures disagree. A vendor guide gives 300,000 to 500,000 miles for ash service, while the Detroit page lists roughly 455,000 to 640,000 miles by duty cycle and treats it as warning-driven. Follow the dash warning and your manual.

Oil, Fuel and Warranty Notes for Detroit Engines
The interval is only valid if the oil and fuel meet the Detroit spec
Keep the schedule valid
Use Detroit-approved oil, CK-4 or FA-4
Use ultra-low-sulfur diesel fuel
Verify the oil spec at every PM
Record every service with date and miles
Shorten the interval when
The truck idles for long periods
Roads are dusty or stop-and-go
Fuel economy falls below 5 mpg
Oil analysis shows early wear
One vendor guide warns that non-approved oil or higher-sulfur fuel can void warranty. Check your own warranty terms with your dealer before you extend any interval.
Put Your Cascadia PM Schedule on Autopilot: Set Detroit Intervals by Miles, Hours or Date in FleetRabbit
FleetRabbit lets you build A, B and C templates, assign them to each Cascadia and trigger them by miles, engine hours or calendar date. Reminders go out before a service is due, and every completed service stays on the truck's record.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers on Freightliner Cascadia maintenance
How often should a Cascadia have an A-Service?
A common baseline is every 15,000 miles, but that comes from a fleet-software guide. Detroit sets engine intervals by duty cycle, so check your manual.
How often does a DD15 need an oil change?
On Detroit's DD15 page, from 75,000 miles for efficient long-haul down to 35,000 for severe duty. A vendor guide lists shorter figures for short-haul and severe duty.
Are DD13, DD15 and DD16 intervals the same?
Not always. One vendor guide gives the DD16 shorter oil intervals than the DD13 and DD15. Confirm with the engine manual.
What oil should I use?
Detroit-approved CK-4 or FA-4 oil. Intervals assume the approved spec.
When does the DPF need service?
The Detroit DD15 page treats ash removal as warning-driven. A vendor guide gives a mileage range instead, so follow the dash warning and your manual.
Should I use miles or engine hours?
Use whichever comes first. Idle-heavy Cascadias can reach hour limits before the mileage limit.
What does FleetRabbit cost?
FleetRabbit is free for up to three vehicles and $5 per vehicle per month after that.
Track 3 vehicles free.
Give Every Cascadia the Right Interval and a Record of Every Service
Different duty cycles need different intervals. Set them once, let reminders carry the schedule and keep a record that shows each service was done on time.
Free tier for up to 3 vehicles · No credit card required · Service history stored per unit
